At this point our family knows a lot about the plague of daily gun violence that destroys communities and takes lives throughout many cities. We know about the knot of problems that drive it, the judicial system, sentencing laws, and lack of resources all around. We have worked closely with the Washington, DC chapter of Moms Demand Action and discovered that there are many great organizations and individuals working on violence elimination and treating the trauma associated with gun violence. This trauma is obviously the greatest for the victims of gun violence, many of whom live, and for the victims' families who continue as Survivors of gun violence and are left with the trauma and grief and PTSD. And then there's the trauma of growing up in a neighborhood where you hear gunshots every week or every day, and you fear even walking out of your house and onto the sidewalk. We must change this. But to do it, we need to bring everyone in DC together, even if they live in the safest neighborhoods. Because this is a problem we all face together, and every victim of gun violence deserved the chance to live their life to its fullest potential.
